one great thing to note is that with Live 9.5, any device controls that you set up for 3rd party VSTs can now be "saved as default", so any time you load them up they'll be auto-assigned to your device controls on the APC. i plan to get a Push2 this year at some point, but will be using the APC40 MkII right alongside it. completely brings the hands-on "hardware mixer" control that i always missed when i moved ITB. I just love the MkII, i wouldn't be without it. drove me nuts, and was the second biggest reason why i didn't keep it.

a number of other people had mentioned this at the time, seemed like some people didn't notice it or didn't have that problem. this was a huge improvement for me, no need for yet another PSU.Ĭan't think of much else at the moment, though i'll add that the original APC40 gave off a high-pitched "whine" when a lot of the LED clip buttons were lit. i think they felt a bit less so on the original. they feel very solid, with good resistance. It features a grid for launching clips and a mixing interface allowing you to mix eight tracks while controlling the master volume and cue mix.

honestly, i can't recall exactly how these felt on the old one, but i'm very happy with them on the MkII. The APC40 from Akai was the first dedicated Ableton controller built in conjunction with the software company. Play/Rec controls are up and out of harm's way, instead of directly above the crossfader.įaders and device controls. Mute/Solo/Rec/A-B is set up nicer as well. assignable "User" switch on these is fantastic. having the multi-use "Track Controls" above each channel is really nice and logical, makes for more useful left/right hand control when using it. everything just seems better arranged on the panel of the MkII. this was probably the main reason that i sold it at the time, it was very frustrating. i'm a bit color-blind, had a hell of a time trying to differentiate between some clip states on the old one. the old one was much bigger/clunkier, felt a bit "hollow" from what i can recall.Īssignable clip-launch colors.

the new version is just sleek as hell, feels solid.

i'm sure i'm going to forget some details at the moment, so i'll try to stop back and update if i think of anything more. Here's a few points on why i DEFINITELY prefer the APC40 MkII over the original. (sorry, forgot to get back to this yesterday.)
